Tillandsia xiphioides es una espécie originaria de Bolivia, Paraguay, Brásil, Uruguay y el norte de Argentina. Es una especie bastante variable y una de las más fascinantes por su rusticidad y su espectacular floración. Crece de manera epífita y saxícola desde los 700m a los 3000m de altitud. Sus hojas cubiertas densamente por tricomas le dan un aspecto plateado/métalico a la planta muy particular en esta espécie. Gran bráctea floral dística, con forma de paleta, de color verde amarillento oscuro. Flores de gran tamaño, onduladas y dentadas en los margenes, de color blanco puro, con un intenso y agradable perfume cítrico. Planta muy resistente a la sequía y a las temperaturas extremas.
