Tillandsia kirschnekii is a saxicolous species endemic to Peru, growing at altitudes of up to 2500 meters above sea level. It is a small plant with numerous leaves growing along a stem. These leaves grow closed towards the stem and are slightly fleshy, densely covered with fine trichomes. The inflorescence is very short and produces two-thirds showy, large flowers, violet in color with a white center.
