Tillandsia pruinosa is a species distributed from Florida, Mexico, and Cuba to Ecuador and Brazil. It grows epiphytically from sea level up to 1200 meters in altitude. This small, pseudobulbous species has distinctive dark leaves that turn purple in bright light and are covered in large, scaly trichomes, giving the plant an "icy" appearance. Its small, pinkish floral bract is densely covered with trichomes. The flowers are tubular and purple. The foliage may take on pinkish/reddish hues during flowering.
