Tillandsia tectorum is a species native to southern Ecuador to central Peru, growing from rocks or even on the roofs of houses (hence its name), from 900m to 2700m of altitude. It is a very variable species. Its leaves full of trichomes give the plant a whitish and fluffy appearance. Its foliage turns whiter in the sun. Over the years, Tillandsia tectorum can form a group with numerous suckers. Slow growing plant. It can be made to wait for its flowering. Its inflorescence produces pink spikes where numerous violet flowers develop. It is a very resistant species to drought even in full sun.
