Tillandsia jequiensis is a saxicolous species native to Brazil, growing directly on rocks at elevations from 400 to 1000 meters. It grows along a single stem, with polystichous leaves that are somewhat tough to the touch and clasp the stem tightly. These leaves are densely covered with trichomes, giving the entire plant a whitish appearance. It produces a long, simple, dark-colored inflorescence with purple tones, from which open, lilac-colored flowers (unscented) emerge. It produces numerous offsets and forms clumps relatively quickly.
