Tillandsia ionantha v. vanhyningii is a species endemic to the state of Chiapas, Mexico. It is lithophytic and grows on vertical limestone cliffs overlooking the Grijalva River. This variety is highly caulescent. It occurs in different forms, including several cultivars. The color of its leaves varies from pale silvery green to white due to the presence of trichomes (the one we have available is very white with closed leaves). In its natural habitat, it forms large clumps of rosettes. During flowering, the foliage turns a bright pink and produces the same deep purple tubular flowers as the ionantha variety. New offsets sprout from the base of mature leaves.
