Tillandsia tectorum is a species native from southern Ecuador to central Peru, growing on rocks (saxicolous), from 900m to 2700m above sea level. It is a very variable species. This form is characterized by growing along a stem, and by its long leaves, and can reach a large size unlike other T. tectorum. Its leaves full of trichomes give the plant a white and spongy appearance. Over the years, Tillandsia tectorum can form a group with numerous shoots. Its pink inflorescence produces numerous white flowers with a violet base.
